Bright medium red. Reticent but pure, vibrant aromas of red cherry, raspberry, licorice and aromatic spices. At once supple and bright, with tart red berry flavors complicated by spicy herbs and flowers. A first bottle of this wine was a bit chocolatey and much more sullen; this one is altogether more succulent and perfumed but a firm spine of tannins calls for patience.

Good medium red. Showy aromas and flavors of wild raspberry, crushed rock, cocoa powder and spices, plus a whiff of leather. Big, rich and plush, but with good medicinal reserve and vinosity giving this voluminous premier cru a light touch. Minerals and sweet spices carry through the persistent, smoky finish, which is a bit shut down today by the wine's considerable ripe tannins.

The 2013 Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru les Suchots conveys the vineyard-typical flamboyance on the nose with lush raspberry, crushed strawberry, marmalade and creme de cassis aromas that soar from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity and a dense, quite muscular finish. The Les Petits Monts might have a little more grace, although this has the sinew.
