Pale ruby. Sweet, high-toned. Actually rather gentler than most. A real charmer. Candied rose petals with so much fruit that the tannins are almost hidden. Dramatic and charming. 17.5/20 points (JR)

Dark cherry, plum, smoke, menthol, tobacco and licorice are some of the many notes that inform this dark, mysterious Barolo. Serralunga d’Alba. Developed-looking ruby with orange rim. Iron and graphite against a background of ripe fruit. Lovely depth on the palate with succulence and grip. Massive but beautifully sculpted tannins. Complex, concentrated finish and nothing big or rough. (WS)
