(vinified with 30% whole clusters; from a tiny crop due to coulure resulting from cold weather during the flowering; 12.3% natural alcohol): Bright medium red. Sweet red fruits on the expressive nose. Then sweet but rather backward on the palate, with spicy flavors of redcurrant, strawberry and leather framed by stony minerality. This is starting to shut down in the bottle and has serious tannins for aging.

Pale ruby. Rather closed nose but savoury and juicy. Very grown up and, like the Lavières, not a hint of excess sweetness. And there's a tad more substance and fine tannin. Grown up. Though it will never be a blockbuster. (JR)

(still in barrel): Palish red. Less pretty on the nose than the foregoing samples owing to some reduction but reveals aromas of licorice, flowers, citrus pith and crushed stone with aeration. Hard to taste today following the purer wines from tank, but tightly wound and minerally, with a firm tannic spine and a strong crushed stone character. I'm usually a big fan of this wine, and I suspect I'm underrating it today.

A background application of wood allows the elegant, pure and cool aromas of plum, violets and earth to shine. There is an evident minerality that adds lift to the vibrant and beautifully well-delineated medium weight flavors that are shaped by admirably fine-grained tannins on the solidly complex and persistent finish. I very much like the delivery of this impeccably well-balanced effort that should amply repay 10 to 12 years of cellar time. Tasted: Apr 15, 2014. Drink: 2022+
