Score 82/100 · Drink 2014-2015, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb 2014

The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino seems to have lost its way with overdone and oxidative aromas of bruised apple, wet hay and dried fig. Perfumed, almost saccharine-like layers of church incense and rose potpourri also appear. It feels flat and lifeless with an odd point of acidity that comes out of left field. Drink: 2014-2015. Deep ruby with narrow orange rim. Striking, expressive raspberry nose. Intense, almost exotic fruit. Intensely perfumed and very young still, and with an elegant palate weight. Sweet tannins. Very different from all the rest. (WS)
