Here the nose isn't quite as elegant as the Griotte as there is plenty of sauvage character but otherwise the red and dark berry fruit, earth and underbrush aroma are almost as complex. There is excellent volume and plenty of underlying vibrancy to the bigger and richer flavors that possess really lovely delineation on the equally mineral-driven finish. Good stuff and built to reward long-term aging. Tasted: Apr 15, 2014. Drink: 2027+

The 2012 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru has a sophisticated bouquet that has wonderful clarity - ebullient and vivacious, speaking louder than the Charmes or Griottes-Chambertins at present. The palate is precise on the entry with good acidity, poised with a precise blueberry and iodine finish. This should be devastatingly seductive once bottled. Feb 2014, www.robertparker.com
