The 2010 Barolo Vigna Cerretta is a wine of enormous intensity and textural richness. Compact, heavier soils result in a bold, velvety quality of fruit with lingering tones of dark plum and prune over spice and leather. Serralunga d’Alba. Just mid ruby with bricky rim. Quite ripe and concentrated, but not showing a lot of finesse (yet). Lowish acidity. (WS)
The 2010 Barolo Vigna Cerretta floats on the palate with an attractive melange of sweet red cherries, savory herbs, wild flowers and fennel. The Vigna Cerretta is darker and more vibrant than the Rapèt, but, it, too is impeccable in its balance. Hints of dark cherry, plum, tobacco and menthol flesh out on the finish. Overall, this is a fairly delicate style for Cerretta and Serralunga, but it all works.
Good deep red. Sweet but subdued aromas of dark cherry and truffle. Silky and rich on the palate, showing lovely depth of red and darker fruit flavors complemented by nutty oak. Distinctly more vibrant than the Rapet. Finishes with a pungent note of fruity pepper, firm but fine tannins and lingering dark fruit flavors.
