Magnum. Tasted blind. Rather dull greyish ruby and a bit too high in acidity to drink now. Lots of chewy tannin. Not ready yet and possibly from a less than fully ripe vintage. (JR)

The 2013 La Petite Eglise, which Denis Durantou poured from magnum since this is how the entire production was bottled, has a precise and fragrant bouquet with crushed stone scents filtering through the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, tensile and fresh in the mouth, not powerful or deep, but lively and playful from start to finish. This is worth seeking out.

100% Merlot. Pure black fruit – lovely clarity and expression here. Firm, chalk-dust tannins, then quite a light, delicate body. Doesn’t seem to deliver all the promise of the nose. The structure is very attractive – strong without being austere – but the flavour stops just a little short. (RH)

About the producer

Ch. l-Eglise-Clinet - producer
l'Eglise Clinet

Ch. l'Eglise-Clinet is one of the most unassuming wine estates in Bordeaux. You'd probably drive past it if you didn't have prior knowledge of its vinous output. There's no ostentatious gateway nor sweeping gravel drive.
