The 2013 Durfort-Vivens, which underwent a 15-day maceration with less pumping over, was matured in 40% new oak. It lacks complexity on the nose, rather monotone, although greenness does not seem to exist here. The palate is medium-bodied, a little rustic, and there is some greenness here. It's lighter than the 2012 and slightly attenuates toward the sour, slightly peppery finish. Drink now. Tasted at the château.

82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc. Aged 18 months in barrel (50% new oak). Garnet hue. More of a red-berry spectrum with redcurrant and strawberry notes. Palate soft and supple with a brush of acidity and light tannic frame. Almost burgundian in style. Slightly dry finish. No great complexity but gentle and harmonious. (JL)

The 2013 Durfort Vivens felt a little green and underripe on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied, chunky in the mouth, but that greenness nags away and dominates the finish. This is just a difficult wine to like I'm afraid.

Bursting with flavour and perfume on the nose, and the palate delivers loads of enjoyment too – it is only on the finish that the shortcomings of 2013 make themselves felt, leaving a short and slightly dilute length. Despite that, there is a great deal of excellent flavour to enjoy here. (RH)
