I bought this years ago and completely forgot about it. And that was a good thing because it is just edging slowly towards its peak. Dark ruby with bright orange tinges. A nose that is complex and layered with marasca cherry, hints of vermouth, blood orange, morocco leather and, deep down, notes of dark earth and damson. Suave, polished fruit that still hasn’t shaken all of its youth. Fine gravelly tannins but playing second fiddle to the fruit. Fantastic balance and length. Not at its peak yet! (WS)

The 2010 Barolo Bussia is a bright and cherry-driven expression of Nebbiolo. The wine shows some distant sweetness with Morello cherry blackberry and prune in center stage. It feels a little ripe with some raisin in there as well. You also get exotic spice and barbecue smoke. The wine shows fine tannins and good length on the finish.

Monforte d’Alba. 90 days on the skins, four years in large oak cask. Just bottled and will be aged for a further 12 months. Impressive distinct nose of allspice and dried fruit and stones all interwoven. Very pretty, succulent cherry fruit and firm finely woven tannins. Lots of concentration yet so contained and near-perfect balance with acidity. Seems like this is ready and yet should age well. I would be happy to drink this now. Claudio Fenocchio expresses the same opinion, confessing at times to doubts about its capacity to age. Super long. (WS)

Very perfumed and pretty with a dense palate of fruit and firm tannins. Lots of strawberry, cedar and citrus. Shaved chocolate, too.
