The 2013 Bélair-Monange has a light red berry nose, ferrous with touches of autumn leaves. The palate is medium-bodied with a crisp entry, light-framed and tensile, not complex, with an off-dry finish that delivers a little more freshness than its peers. Not bad at all, but I would drink over the next four to five years. Tasted at Bordeaux Index's 10-Year On tasting.

Glowing blackish ruby. Quite nicely married nose with some interest but then that's followed on the palate by some really drying, underripe tannins on the end unfortunately. (JR)

Clear grilled and charred oak, good grip, more so than many, with the limestone fingers exerting their magic, giving a sense of purpose that so many of the 2013s lack. One of the more successful ones, with red cherry and raspberry fruit, although again tertiary notes of blue cheese, salted cracker on the finish.

Tasted blind. Mid garnet. Leafily fragrant, cedary. Lightish, dry, fine-boned and quite elegant. Making the most of the vintage limitations. (JH)
