A surprisingly plump, easygoing version, the 2011 Hunting Hill Chardonnay is wonderfully drinkable now, marrying nectarine and white peach notes with lime and lemon.

The 2011 Hunting Hill Chardonnay feels a little dour on the nose compared to the 2010, coming across backward and sultry. The well-balanced palate offers orange zest and apricot but lacks the mineralité and complexity of the 2009 and 2010. Drink over the next three or four years. Tasted at the Kumeu River Chardonnay vertical in London.

Not bad at all! Very fine in fact. Not quite the mellifluous fruit of other vintages and a tiny bit lacking fruit in the middle but a very good wine. Very long. (JR)
