La Morra. Concentrated ruby with orange-tinged rim. Closed and a little vegetal and creamy but with real depth to it. Brooding and dark, with pungent acidity. Perhaps not entirely focused, but power it has. (WS)
La Morra. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Lots of stuffing but very embryonic. Sweet raspberry and strawberry fruit with the fresh acidity giving it tension. (WS)
The 2010 Barolo Monfalletto is a beautiful, precise wine. Firm yet nicely integrated tannins support dark cherry, plum, tobacco, spices and menthol notes as the wine blossoms in the glass. Hints of tobacco, underbrush and autumn leaves reappear on the gracious finish. In 2010, the Monfalletto impresses for its overall balance. The wine's classic, mid-weight structure and signature flavors are all present, supported by underlying veins of minerality and acidity.
