Tasting notes
Ratti's 2010 Barolo Marcenasco is gorgeous. Dark red cherries, spices, new leather, menthol and tobacco are all laced together in the glass. The French oak is a bit evident at this stage, yet the weight, richness and body of the year comes through in spades. The Marcenasco is made from a collection of sites in La Morra. The 2010 was aged predominantly in cask, while about a third of the wine was aged in French oak barriques:

The 2010 Barolo Marcenasco is a perfumed and floral wine with pressed violets and crushed rose petal at the front of dark tones of spice and pipe tobacco. The wine shows and exotic, almost spicy personality with a good level of heft and density at the back. It meets your need, should you have it, for a bold, deeply layered Barolo. Drink: 2016-2026.
La Morra. Almost deep ruby with orange rim. Super-concentrated lifted raspberry and sweet-sour cherry nose. Intense and sweet and almost explosively fruity on the palate. This will need considerable time in bottle.
