Score 89/100 · Drink 2020-2028, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Feb 2015

Harvested earlier than the Kabinetts in the first week of October and made "from purple colored berries," the 2013 Wintricher Ohligsberg Riesling Spätlese starts reductive but clear and stony on the nose. Well concentrated, slightly creamy textured, very elegant and piquant on the palate, the wine reveals a racy and very salty, almost drying finish. The acidity was above 23 grams of residual sugar here, and is still preeminent, but should be better integrated in 5 or 10 years.

RS 75 g/l, TA 12.5. More reductively mineral than the Piesporter Schubertslay Späptlese but there's a delicate floral scent underneath all that smokiness. Beautiful silky texture, cool, refined and long. The sweetness completely undercut by crystalline acidity. Already a treat but a great future, too. VGV (JH)
