The 2010 Barolo represents a terrific effort and shows a level of aromatic purity and intensity that sets it apart. Soft cherry and blackberry is enhanced by bursts of clove, leather, cola and exotic tobacco. Oberto’s use of oak renders spice tones that are enduring but not overwhelming. Soft tannins and a richly layered mouthfeel make this wine appropriate for near-term drinking. Drink: 2016-2025. Various American Importers, including: Vinvino Wine Co., www.vinvinowineco.com; Chambers & Chambers Wine Merchants, www.chamberswines.com; Worldwide Cellars, www.wwcellars.com; Michael R. Oberto's 2010 Barolo is a gorgeous entry-level offering. Juicy red cherries, plums, mint and cinnamon lift from the glass in a supple, fragrant Barolo to drink now and over the next few years. The Barolo is made from four parcels in La Morra, and is aged in neutral oak. Sweet floral and cinnamon notes reappear on the finish. The 2010 is perfumed, gracious and full of near-term appeal.
