The 2002 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a wonderful nose with citrus lemon, linseed and crushed stone, vivacious and barely showing any indication that it is already two decades "young". The palate is cohesive and vibrant with bitter lemon and pear, building and fanning out with style toward its weighty and concentrated finish. What a fantastic showing. Tasted at the La Paulée in Beaune.

The Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet was also tasty, if not quite up to the level of this storied domaine's finest bottles.

Beautifully elegant and spicy aromas of obvious class introduce massive, sappy and notably concentrated flavors that are sweet and pure with buckets of dry extract that cause the palate impression to seem quite texturally dense, even chewy. This is an opulent wine of immense potential with plenty of muscle, weight and power. Extremely impressive.

Brooding, reticent nose hints at flowers and menthol. Offers great power and thrust as well as noteworthy finesse. Lively flavors of lime, tobacco and minerals show terrific lift. This is extremely young and yet its generosity of texture and sheer chewy extract are already obvious. Finishes penetrating and extremely long but not at all edgy or bitter. This should be a monument of the vintage 10 or 15 years down the road; it would be a shame to pull the cork anytime soon.
