The 1992 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru from Domaine Leflaive was thoroughly enjoyable, but I felt that it was not firing on all cylinders compared to a bottle previously drunk in Hong Kong. This particular example had been reconditioned at the domaine. Yes, it had a fragrant bouquet with scents of red apple, white flowers and chamomile, but where was the killer flintiness that defines Leflaive’s wines in a vintage where it did not put a foot wrong? This slight flaccidity came through on a rounded palate with lower acidity than expected, and again, missing that nerve on the finish. Don’t get me wrong, it was still a lovely white Burgundy, but it had lost something along the way.

Deep gold. Smoky reductive nose but already quite evolved on the palate by now and not quite fresh enough for perfection even though the balance is pretty good. (JR)
