Tasting notes
Brooding aromas of menthol, citrus skin and vanillin oak. Highly concentrated, rich and broad; at once sweet and fresh. Very long, slow-mounting finish. As rich as this is, it's less thick than the '05, and more unyielding today. I'd give this a good eight years of cellaring.

Cask sample Smoky notes with tempting hints of creamy coconut. Subtle power with citrus flavours bursting in the mouth. Very long and concentrated. (JH)
(50% new oak) Lemon and smoky, charry oak on the nose. Fatter and rounder than the Bienvenue, with more "shoulders." Conveys an impression of lower acidity, and yet the pH is actually a hair lower. Very strong material here, with enough freshness to avoid coming off as heavy. Finishes with excellent persistence. The Chevalier-Montrachet was aging in another cellar, and the powerful, dense, minerally Montrachet had not finished its malolactic fermentation. Boudot told me he may bottle the 2004 big boys as late as next February or March.
