The 2005 Le Pin Beausoleil is a total knock-out. Deep, aromatic and wonderfully expressive, the 2005 is a total joy to taste today. If anything, it is too young! Dark cherry/plum fruit, mocha, licorice, spice and dried herbs all open as this dense, opulent Bordeaux Superieur struts its stuff. The 2005 is a staggeringly beautiful, complete wine. Readers who have bottles hiding in the cellar should be absolutely thrilled. Both bottles I tasted were terrific. This is the better of the two bottles. The second was just a bit lean, but equally fresh. I rated it 93.

Plenty of sweet kirsch liqueur-like notes (almost reminiscent of a Southern Rhône), rich, fruity, soft tannins and low acidity make for a medium-bodied, over-achieving, ripe, concentrated, delicious Bordeaux Supérieur to drink over the next 4-5 years. This is a sleeper of the vintage.

Good ruby-red. Nice lift to the aromas of raspberry, spice, flowers, leather and chocolate. Supple and sweet, with rather wild, nicely concentrated flavors of raspberry, leather, truffle and game. Finishes with dusty, firm tannins and good length.

(this Bordeaux Superieur is 70% merlot and 30% cabernet franc, from a crop level of just 22 hectoliters per hectare according to consulting winemaker Stephane Derenoncourt) Medium ruby. High-toned, perfumed aromas of blackberry, violet and spicy oak. Sweet, aromatic and quite juicy in the mouth (there's still a bit of unconverted malic acidity), with lovely purity of blackberry fruit. Finishes with firm tannic spine and good length. An outperformer in 2005.
