76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Aged for 15 months in oak barrels (70% new). Garnet hue with a touch of brick at the rim. Restrained, dark-fruit aroma with a herbal edge. Rather abrasive tannins that overshadow the fruit. A bit dry and angular on the finish. Definitely needs food. Not sure this will evolve much further in a positive way. (JL)

Full bottle 1,312 g. Transparent garnet with a wide ruby rim. Savoury, bay-leaf aromas with fully resolved cassis aromas underneath. Quite long. Classic claret with a little more spice than average. It may develop more nuance in my young(!) wine decanter ... (JR)

The 1995 Lynch-Bages has a well-defined bouquet with intense blackberry, undergrowth and tobacco scents. Bold and lifted, this is a nose that wants to make an impression. The palate has more concentration and tannic backbone than others in this era. Dark berry fruit mixes with cola and black pepper, and tobacco comes through toward the finish with an austere, grippy finish. This would benefit from decanting for a couple of hours and is a bit of a bruiser, though not without charm. (NM)

Transparent ruby. Classic ripe Pauillac with a bit of spicy evolution. Still with a bit of tannin and freshness. Lots of fun for claret lovers now. (JR)
