2006 Vougeot Les Petits Vougeots

Good bright red-ruby. Exotic ripe cherry aroma comes across as rather liqueur-like for the year. Fat and sweet, with a thick texture for this cellar and an impression of lowish acidity. Less pristine and vibrant than most of these '06s, finishing with notes of blueberry, damp earth and resiny oak. Vincent Munier told me that this was really the only estate vineyard to experience some rot. "The sandy soil here produces a very different style," he added. "It does best in dry years; in wet years the grapes can swell."
