Score 92/100 · Drink 2003-2010, Robert Parker, Dec 2003

The complex, sexy, surprisingly open-knit 2001 Pinot Noir Hirsch Vineyard (the blend includes 10% stems) reveals a Burgundian-like nose of forest floor, mushrooms, and gamy animal scents intertwined with ripe apple skins, black raspberries, and black cherries. Ripe tannin is found in this full-flavored, finesse-styled Pinot. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. Tel. (707) 963-4762; Fax (707) 963-7332

Moderately saturated dullish red. Low-toned aromas of plum, strawberry, smoke and earth. A bit brighter in the mouth, with strawberry and raspberry fruit notes and some earthy, tarry low tones. A bit more vibrant than the Keller Estate pinot. Finishes with ripe tannins and very good persistence. A heat spike in late August affected a few of the earlier-ripening pinot noir sites, such as this one, said Lemon.
