Score 86/100 · Drink 2000-2012, Robert Parker, Feb 2001

From barrel, the 1998 Crozes-Hermitage Raymond Roure was impressive. Now that it is in bottle, it appears tough-textured, lean, tannic, closed, and uninteresting. I either blundered with last year's evaluation, or this wine is in complete hiding at present. Importer: Frederick Wildman, New York, NY; tel. (212) 355-0700

Saturated, deep medium ruby. Superripe, port-like aromas of chocolate-covered cherries and beefsteak tomato. Large-scaled, fat and gamey; the note of tomato-ey surmaturite repeats in the mouth. Long on personality. Tannins are nicely ripe for the vintage. Excellent potential.
