Score 89/100 · Allen Meadows, Burghound

(from a bottle opened at the domaine). Still quite deeply colored. A relatively inexpressive nose features relatively ripe, mostly black fruits and moderate secondary aromas that are followed by earthy, full and still solidly structured flavors and fine length though there is mild astringency present. This is denser than usual though it is also perhaps a touch less elegant too and I would suggest drinking the '95 Clos de Vougeot now and over the next decade as it risks drying out before its still firm tannins are fully resolved. To be sure, this is an enjoyable and admirably complex effort, just one where the balance is not likely to hold over time. Allen Meadows, Burghound Nov12,2009

Highly aromatic nose of black cherry, licorice, smoke and earth. Sweet and tactile; has the strong, primary fruit of the vintage but still seems sweet and creamy. Harmonious, ripe acidity. Finishes long and subtle, with a note of oak spice. A terrific early showing for Meo Clos Vougeot.
