Score 92/100 · Allen Meadows, Burghound, Oct 2013

This has finally reached its full maturity with an earthy and beautifully complex nose that is backed by big, dense and very intense flavors that possess solid underlying material all underpinned by largely if not completely resolved dusty tannins and a long finish that offers excellent richness. This is now drinking perfectly though there would be no risk in allowing this to age for up to another decade as it will last for a lot longer than that. Multiple, and largely consistent, notes save for two bottles that display a touch of vegetal character on the nose.

Among the Cote de Nuits grand crus, the very good, monolithic Clos de Vougeot is deeply-colored, with medium body, excellent fruit extraction, and some of the vintage's hard tannin in the finish. Cellar it for 3-4 years; it will last for 20 years, although it may always be a trifle austere. Jadot produced a high percentage of successful wines in 1993. There are also disappointments, particularly in the lower appellations which have turned out tough and tannic. There is no Jadot house style, save for rich, well-delineated, structured wines that stand the test of time. As a vintage, 1993 is less consistently excellent than 1990 or 1989. In 1988, all the grand crus were bottled without filtration. That vintage was followed in 1990 and subsequent vintages, with all the premier and grand crus bottled without fining or filtration.
