Score 93/100 · Drink 2021-2036, Neal Martin, Aug 2021
The 1999 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has matured very well in bottle. Red cherries and wild strawberry burst from the glass, flanked by pressed flowers and iodine (an aroma that is becoming a leitmotif of the vintage.) The palate is quite structured and grippy, maybe a little angular compared to other crus from the domaine, but you cannot resist the saline finish, which has admirable energy for a 20-year-old. Excellent.
