Medium red with little amber showing. Slightly funky but energetic aromas and flavors of raspberry, cherry, game and truffley underbrush. Not particularly expansive on the palate but juicy and savory, with a strong spine keeping it alive. Substantial dusty tannins saturate the front teeth on the firm back end. This wine still shows considerable energy and should go on for a while. Needs to be served with food but should bite nicely into fatty meat. Incidentally, this was the first year the estate had a sorting table. There was a lot of rot and mildew in Vosne-Romanée in '93, noted Marie-Christine, but less in Clos Vougeot.

There is a bit more size, weight and depth here than in the '93 Ruchottes though the character is entirely different as this is earthier and a hair more rustic with good richness and plenty of finishing power. This will require another 5 to 7 years to really be at its best.
I regret to say that this estate produced out of balance 1993s with frightfully low PH's, high acids, brutal tannin levels, and not enough fruit or flesh. None of the wines possessed enough extract to stand up to the harsh, severe tannins. They are all likely candidates to dry out.
