Score 92/100 · Drink 2019-2030, Neal Martin, May 2019
The 2002 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru looks youthful for its 16 years of age. It has a fresh, floral bouquet with rose petals and incense, just a trace of eucalyptus emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, a fine bead of acidity, quite structured for a 2002 with commendable poise. To be honest, I was not expecting this to have matured with such class, but hats off to Rion because there is real tension and finesse on the crisp and taut finish. Tasted at the Clos de Vougeot retrospective at Clos de Vougeot.
