2002 Clos Vougeot

The 2002 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru looks youthful for its 16 years of age. It has a fresh, floral bouquet with rose petals and incense, just a trace of eucalyptus emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, a fine bead of acidity, quite structured for a 2002 with commendable poise. To be honest, I was not expecting this to have matured with such class, but hats off to Rion because there is real tension and finesse on the crisp and taut finish.
