Score 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2004
Good red-ruby. Big, roasted nose combines ripe cherry, chocolate, licorice, mint and spicy oak. Large-scaled, fat, rich and sweet, with a mouthfilling texture. Low in acidity but seemed to grow fresher with air. Finishes rather suave, with considerable chocolatey oak and very good aromatic persistence. This was 11.5% natural alcohol, chaptalized to 13%.

Medium-deep red. Black cherry, dark chocolate, roasted herbs and licorice on the nose. Sweet and silky, with ripe black cherry and dark chocolate flavors, and good verve and grip. Finishes with big but rich tannins and solid backbone.
