Score 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jul 2010

Bright red-ruby. Black raspberry, Christmas spices, mocha and sexy smoky oak on the nose, along with floral and candied fruit notes. Silky-sweet and lush but with tangy minerality and a sexy floral component giving the wine a light touch. Not a thick or particularly sweet style but quite shapely. Finishes with a hint of herbs and sweet tannins.

This 2007 may have turned out better than the estate’s 2009, which did not perform as well as I would have hoped. Made from yields of 25 hectoliters per hectare, the 2007 (90% Merlot and the rest mostly Cabernet Franc) tips the scales at 13.5% natural alcohol. The wine is deep and rich with attractive notes of chocolaty, berry fruit and spicy oak, a supple, lush texture, and sweet tannin in the plump, corpulent finish. It will provide plenty of pleasure over the next 7-8 years.

(13.4% alcohol; aging in 50% new oak) Good medium ruby-red. Blueberry, violet and licorice aromas. Supple and creamy, with lovely palate coverage and good sweetness of berry and floral flavor. Quite pliant and easy to taste today. The pH of 3.6 is higher than that of the 2006, notes Prissette. Finishes with good breadth and ripe tannins.
