Tasting notes
The 2000 Vintage Port is more complex than the Late Bottle Vintage and gives up terrific notes of ripe plums, black olives, tobacco leaf, and Asian spices. This gives way to a medium to full-bodied, textured, balanced Port that has terrific fruit as well as length. It’s drinking great today, holds up nicely with extended air, and should shine for another decade or more.

Deep blackish purple. Lovely lift and savour. Slight hint of sawdust on extremely luscious fruit then some fine tannins. Pretty interesting, if non-classic wine. A real flatterer. Long but with great interest. Dry finish. (JR)
Straightforward yet intense, ripe black raspberry liqueur and cassis scents are followed by a medium to full-bodied, elegant, restrained, balanced port with moderately high tannin as well as outstanding purity. It is a vintage port with impeccable finesse. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020. Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel. (205) 980-8802
Dark crimson though not as youthful as Quinta do Vesuvio. Rather muted and elder-statesman-like on the nose. Big and pruney and then (immediately) very dry and quite stern and cigar-smoking. Not to be touched for some time but well made and with a definite style! Very chewy indeed. (JR)
