Tasting notes
Medium red. Musky aromas of dark cherry and smoke convey an impression of brooding power. Then fatter and sweeter than the Brulees, offering more weight but less energy today. But this is chewy, rich and very long. Clavelier says this is quite reserved today and in need of bottle aging.

Bright medium red. Deeply pitched nose shows some earthy soil tones. Then fatter and sweeter than any of the foregoing samples; full and generous, with the wine's ample flesh hiding its underlying structure. But this is also quite muscular, not to mention rich and very long. Impressively slow-mounting finish. This site performs especially well in cooler years.
Cask sample. Extraordinarily attention grabbing. Gorgeous liqueur style. Positively Las Vegas! Some will love this, but not purists. Sweet and lively. Jewelly. Relatively simple. Racy. Transparent. (JR)
