Tasting notes
Good full red. Very closed nose hints at redcurrant, mocha, brown spices and underbrush. Full and moderately sweet, with decent life to the redcurrant and smoke flavors. Shows the ripeness of the year more than the character of the site, but finishes with good length and grip and ripe, firm tannins.

The glorious aromas of the 2003 Bonnes Mares exhibit scents of talcum powder, violets, candied cherries, and roses. A broad, lush wine in the attack as well as mid-palate, it displays sweet red fruit flavors and a long, firmly tannic finish. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2018. Very scented. Very fruited and round. But it lacks a little grand-cru intensity in the middle. (JR)
