Tasting notes
The dark ruby-colored 1999 Bonnes Mares was produced from three barrels purchased from two different sources. It has a jammy blackberry-scented nose, and a gorgeously plump, medium to full-bodied personality. This dense, thick, velvety wine is jam-packed with dark fruit flavors as well as hints of freshly laid road tar and licorice. It is powerful, masculine, expansive, and possesses a firm, tannin-filled finish. Drink it between 2005 and 2012. Importer: Jeffrey Davies Signature Selections, West Nyack, NY; tel. (845) 353-8767.

Bright red-ruby. Complex, sappy aromas of black raspberry, mocha and pepper. Offers an uncanny combination of volume and sheer juiciness; at once full-bodied and elegant, if still rather closed in on itself. A penetrating, powerful, intensely flavored young Bonnes-Mares with lovely restrained sweetness and strong spine. Finishes with dusty tannins and terrific subtle persistence.
