Score 94/100 · Drink 2019-2032, Neal Martin, Mar 2018

The 2001 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru felt a little light on the nose than the 2000 Bonnes-Mares at first, then once it gains confidence, offers entrancing scents of red cherries (Morello), pomegranate seeds and kelp. The palate is medium-bodied and very harmonious, lighter in tannin than the 2000 but certainly finer, with a Mugnier-like, understated finish that feels both minerals and extremely persistent. This is a supremely well-crafted Grand Cru from Lalou Bize-Leroy. 1134 bottles produced. Tasted at the d'Auvenay dinner in Hong Kong.
