Very dense black fruit aromas precede absolute huge| indeed even robust flavors underpinned by big but ripe tannins but they finish somewhat short. In sum| this is a curious wine as it's massive yet seems excessively structured and tight. Perhaps I'm missing the call on this one but I don't like the balance at the moment and the prospects do not appear promising that it will age out of this imbalance. If you own it| I would check in on it around 2005 and see how it's progressing. Allen Meadows, Burghound.com

Medium-to-dark ruby colored, the spectacularly aromatic Bonnes Mares explodes out of the glass with spiced apples, dark cherries and cola scents. Chewy, powerful, polished and intensely structured, this full-bodied wine is packed with wild berries, plums and red fruits. Drink 2003-2012+. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted it, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided. Pierre Rovani, Wine Advocate # 111
