Palish medium red. Expressive, vineyard-typical aromas of black raspberry, musky soil tones, pepper and brown spices. In a lively, juicy style but shows modest give and generosity owing to a slight herbal streak and some spiky acidity. A bit monolithic and only moderately concentrated, this wine lacks flesh and flavor development. Brouin completely destemmed this wine and that was probably a good idea in light of its incomplete ripeness. This is probably past its peak. (12.9% alcohol; 3.53 pH; 3.4 g/l acidity)

The 1988 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru exhibits notes of potpourri, leather and smoky redcurrant fruit. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, firm and chalky, with tangy acids and a dry finish. It's a lean, austere wine that I suspect isn't going to change, for better or for worse, anytime soon.
Revealing an evolved brown/amber color, there is virtually no fruit in this 1988. Old, sweaty leather/ice tea-like aromas, and an austere, thin, diluted finish with an excess of tannin and acidity further characterize this loser. Feb 2002, www.robertparker.com
