Score 89/100 · Drink 2013-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2013

The 2011 Pian del Ciampolo is a wonderful (and affordable!) introduction to the wines of Montevertine. Freshly cut flowers, strawberries, spices and mint waft from the glass in a weightless, delicate wine of notable class. Soft and textured, the 2011 impresses for its sophistication and softness. It is easy to overlook the Pian del Ciampolo in favor of Montevertine's more famous wines, but that is a mistake. In its top vintages, Pian del Ciampolo ages beautifully. A recent bottle of the 1996 was eye-opening.
