Score 89/100 · Drink 1969-2022, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jul 2020

The 1959 Volnay 1er Cru Santenots couldn't quite match the delights of the 1955, drunk a few months earlier, but it still showed very well, offering up a sweet and sun-kissed bouquet of strawberry preserve, sweet soil tones and warm spices. Medium-bodied, ample and satiny, with a generous core of fruit and entirely melted tannins, now is the time to drink it—even from a cold cellar in Beaune.
