Only made in the greatest vintages, the top cuvee is the 2009 St.-Joseph Le Paradis St.-Pierre. Tasting like La Sensonne on steroids, it is one of the greatest St.-Josephs I have ever tasted. The luscious perfume smells like a flower garden in full bloom intermixed with blackberry and black raspberry fruit with a touch of graphite. A wine of superb intensity and full-bodied power revealing stunning integration of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol, this St.-Joseph is made like haute couture and is seamless and profound in its richness, aromatic and flavor dimensions. This is a brilliant achievement from young Jerome Coursodon. It should age magnificently for two decades or more. Jerome Coursodon, one of the Rhone Valley’s up-and-coming young producers, has produced beautiful 2009s that represent his greatest achievements to date. I did not see his 2010s, but I assume they are close in quality to the 2009s, as he is as conscientious and passionate about his work as one will find anywhere in the world. He has hit a home run with all four of his St.-Joseph cuvees in 2009. Importer: A Patrick Lesec Selection, agent for the U.S. market, Chemin des Vins, Sherborn, MA; tel. (508) 545-1532

Deep ruby. Sexy red and dark berry aromas, with notes of vanillin oak, cola, spice cake and licorice gaining strength with aeration. Dense, palate-staining mulberry and cherry compote flavors are complemented by sweet floral pastille and licorice, with very good mineral lift and cut. The finish repeats the licorice note and lingers with impressive tenacity.
