The Champs St. Etienne has a pleasant, soy-tinged bouquet with plenty of ripe red currant and cranberry fruit that probably needs another 12 months to unwind. The palate is medium-bodied with a candied, almost confectionary (not confected) sweetness on the entry with hints of bubblegum infusing the red cherries and strawberry fruit. Pert and lively, this is a lovely Marsannay that should remain in your cellar for another year. Tasted May 2013.

(Philippe Roty label): Good deep red. Rather wild aromas of cassis, redcurrant, coffee and mocha. Dense and silky but slightly disjointed, showing a faint acid edge that has not yet integrated with the wine's fruit. Finishes a tad dry and tart. Where will this go in bottle?

Dark red with ruby highlights. Explosive aromas of cranberry, blackberry and violet. A bit youthfully disjointed today, with its sweet and acid elements not yet in harmony. Penetrating cranberry and violet flavors carry through to the very long, firmly tannic finish. Strong potential here, but this Marsannay will require at least five or six years of cellaring.
