The prosciuto-scented 1999 Nuits-St.-Georges En Rue de Chaux is a dense, medium-bodied wine. Spice, flowers, blackberries, and tar can be found in its intense flavor profile. It is concentrated, well-balanced, and boisterous. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2010. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083.

Bright, saturated ruby. Blackberry, minerals and bitter chocolate on the rather reticent nose. Very intensely flavored but quite backward; black fruit, bitter chocolate, mineral and game flavors offer good definition. Strong juice yet quite subtle. This cuvee has struck me as extremely tannic in some recent vintages, but here the substantial tannins are fine.
