A solidly constructed, virile St.-Emilion, with a dense, opaque purple color, this wine has a meaty, rich, structured taste with plenty of crushed rock minerality and moderately high tannin in a tight, difficult-to-penetrate overall style. Nevertheless, there is a lot to like. The fruit is deep, rich, and ripe, but the wine clearly needs 3-5 years of bottle age before consumption. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030.

Ch. Grand Pontet was purchased by Domaine Clarence Dillon wines (owners of Ch. Haut-Brion and Ch. la Mission Haut-Brion) in 2021. The last vintage was 2020, with the vineyards absorbed by Ch. Quintus, Clarence Dillon’s prestige Saint-Emilion estate from the 2021 vintage.
