Tasting notes
The finest Grand Pontet yet tasted, the saturated black/purple-colored 1998 offers a knock-out nose of nearly overripe blackberry fruit, kirsch liqueur, licorice, smoke, and toasty new oak. Full-bodied, powerful, and rich, with impressive equilibrium, this concentrated, deep wine will be even better after another 2-3 years of bottle age. It will last for 15-16 years. Impressive! Grand Pontet is undervalued in today's wine market, a rarity for Bordeaux.
