Barthod’s 2011 Chambolle-Musigny Aux Beaux-Bruns is one of the more seamless, textured wines in the range. Dark red and blue-toned fruit, cloves and new leather all flesh out in an inviting, resonant Chambolle full of personality. The tannins are very nicely balanced, although there is a sense of rawness - especially on the finish - that requires a bit of bottle age to sort itself out. As is often the case, the Beaux-Bruns is a wine built on texture and volume.

Bright medium red. Riper on the nose than the village offering, but still with a slightly intrusive crushed herb and pepper quality to the red berry aromas. Supple and quite dry in the middle, showing a hint of bitterness and modest depth to its tart red fruit and herb flavors. Finishes with a slightly dry edge to its tannins. Can't match the 2012 version for precision or energy. Did I catch this one in an awkward stage?

Good bright, dark red. Expressive aromas of raspberry, minerals, flowers and spices. Moderately intense red cherry, red berry and pepper flavors display good energy. Not a fat style of Charmes--in fact, a tad lean on the lingering finish. Barthod believes that some of her premier crus are tightening up in barrel with the coming of cold weather, and this one is a prime example.
