The 1990 has put on weight since I first had it, although it is displaying some amber at the edge. The smoky, weedy tobacco, roasted herb, and blackcurrant-scented nose is followed by a fleshy, soft wine with well-integrated tannin, and a jammy, low acid finish. It should drink well for another 6-7 years. Both the 1989 and 1990 Bahans-Haut-Brion represented splendid bargains when they were released. I suspect quantities still exist in the marketplace.

Sweaty, leathery, gamey, raspberry aromas leap from the glass. Sweet, succulent, tobacco-tinged fruit has very good underlying richness and low acidity. Finishes with ripe tannins and sneaky fruit. A seductive wine for early enjoyment.

Ch. Haut-Brion is the only classified growth in Pessac-Léognan. One of the five First Growths, it is renowned for producing both exceptional reds and whites. Along with its sister estate, Ch. la Mission Haut-Brion, it is part of the Clarence Dillon stable.
