2007 Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres

Musk melon and peach again come to the fore in Chateau de Puligny's 2007 Puligny-Montrachet Folatieres, which also perpetuates a darker spectrum of flavors that exemplified by the estate's Meursaults. Decadent lily and narcissus notes as well as sheer creaminess of texture emphasize the grand cru Montrachet-like aspects of this wine that finishes long and rich, hauntingly rather than obviously, and promising of further complexity. I would expect this to be well worth following for 6-8 years. Etienne de Montille – whose entire Chateau de Puligny collection I regrettably did not have time to taste – reports that what botrytis there was in 2007 was located on the exterior rather than (as was the case in 2008) inside the grape clusters, thus making it easier to select-out, and that small losses to hail in certain sites where not accompanied by damage to the fruit or significant retardation of ripening.
