Score 90/100 · Drink 2015-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2015

A deep, resonant wine, the 2004 Barolo Conca is all about the texture and voluptuous fruit this south-facing site is so adept at yielding. The Conca is pliant and open, with plenty of immediacy, but fewer of the shades of nuance that the very best sites are capable of providing. All things considered, though, the Conca has developed nicely over the last few years. It is best enjoyed sooner rather than later.

La Morra, barrique. Delicate sweet red fruit and inviting fragrance. Sweet vanilla and oaky spice dominates the mid palate at the moment. Chewy oak as well as fruit tannins. (JH)

The Revello cellars are located in Annunziata just under La Morra. Carlo's beacon for exceptional Barolo is Elio Altare, so their wines tend to have upfront, fleshy fruit. The wines are aged in casks and smaller French oak barrels, some of which are new . This is their warmest vineyard hence their fleshiest wines; vineyard in the shape of a shell. 3600-4000 bottles; aged 100% in French barriques (50% new) for 24 months. At first this seems more floral and delicate on the nose than the Gattera and Giachini but also some darker cherry notes and a slight note of cough linctus. Then more savoury and dark on the palate. Very fine and already complex. Tightly furled with acid and tannins all so beautifully balanced even though there is plenty more to come. (JH) £349.00 ib Goedhuis

The 2004 Barolo Vigna Conca is among the strongest wines in the group. It is perhaps a touch less aromatically complex than the preceding wines yet it offers notable concentration and fatness on the palate which helps balance to the wine's significant structural components.
