2007 Nuits St Georges Clos de Forets

Tasted blind at Flint Wines’ 2007/2012 Nuits Saint-Georges tasting in London. The 2007 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts Saint Georges from Domaine de l'Arlot is fully mature on the nose with rustic, rather ferrous vestiges of red berry fruit, not unattractive but a bouquet suggesting that it is reaching the end of its drinking plateau. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin. Savory in style with a grainy, rather dour finish, this Clos des Forets is a wine that peaked early and seems to be fading. Tasted November 2016.

Tasted blind. Light ruby. Sweet red cherry fruit. A little gamey. Not the freshest fruit but easy to like now. Just a little simple. (JR)

Good bright red. Raspberry and minerals on the nose, with complicating hints of earth and leather. Sweet and moderately dense, with some very ripe notes to the flavors of strawberry, raspberry and chocolate. Finishes with building tannins and good length, but seems slightly dull in its fruit character. (My sample of the Clos de l'Arlot was almost certainly not representative, as it showed a dried fruit character and lacked both sweetness and freshness.)
