The 2008 Château Bellefont-Belcier checks in as a blend of 72% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Cabernet Sauvignon that was brought up in 70% new barrels. Its ruby/plum color is followed by a ripe, mature bouquet of blackcurrants, tobacco, leafy herbs, and earth. It's ripe, medium to full-bodied, dense and chewy, with terrific density and depth. It's fully mature at this point yet should keep for another decade or more.

A sleeper of the vintage, winemaker Dominique Hebard has fashioned a beautifully complex, evolved St.-Emilion that offers up sweet garrigue, black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with hints of licorice, fruitcake, underbrush and forest flora. This dark plum/purple-colored, complex, medium to full-bodied 2008 can be drunk now and over the next decade or more.
Bright crimson. Easy, gentle, sweet without being sickly plus a bit of polish. (JR)

The history of the estate dates back to the 17th century, but the estate acquired its current name from Count Louis-Francois de Belcier who took ownership of the property at the end of the 18th century.
